As you already know, loops can be different: overhead, half-laid, internal, gallery, 45 degrees and so on.
They are regulated based on their design.
We will consider the most commonly used.
So, ordinary, four-hinged ones have a very simple device, and consist of the loop itself and the reciprocal bar (more about their device can be found in this article).
Such accessories are regulated by a conventional screwdriver with a tetrahedral nozzle (or bat).
The reciprocal plate is attached to the device, pressed by a special bolt. Using this bolt, you can adjust the position of the facade deeper and closer (as shown in the figure below).
A little further than this bolt, a special screw is located, which abuts against this reciprocal level, and allows you to adjust the facade from left to right.
The concepts right-left, up-down, in this case, are applicable to specific drawings, and are not absolute. If you look at the device from different sides, then the designation of directions will be different.
The reciprocal plate itself is attached to the side of the box on which the facade is installed. It is fastened with ordinary self-tapping screws (for example, 4x16 mm). If you let them go a little, you can adjust the facade up and down.
There are devices that are arranged a little differently (a little more complicated). For example, those produced by Blum.
In two planes, they are regulated in the same way as the previous ones, but, in the place of attachment of this strap to the side of the box, they are not regulated by self-tapping screws.
The reciprocal plate is attached to the box with self-tapping screws, but it is made “according to the cunning”, therefore, in order to move the entire facade to the right or left (or, as in the other figure, up and down), you need to turn a special bolt located with a screwdriver, located in the zone of this bar.
In my opinion, the drawback of this type of fittings is that the facade (meaning the option considered in this case) is less than the usual (meaning, in a constructive way) loop.
And even if during adjustment the facade needs to be shifted by a larger amount than this mount allows, it is much easier to do on self-tapping screws than on the loop we are considering.
There are still other designs of the accessories we are considering, but these two options are the most used.
What tools do you need?
Before you begin adjusting the window, you must prepare the tools. You will need:
- 4mm hexagon wrench. This tool is used for tuning in the first place. The shape of the key can be any, for example, curved in the form of the letter "G". Professional keys have a bend on one side to make them comfortable to hold.
- Nozzles for a screwdriver in the shape of a star (marking T, TX). Will be required only for some models of accessories, but just in case, it is better to purchase them.
- Phillips screwdriver (size 3 or 4). Usually, the hardware is bolted to the window with a regular Phillips screwdriver. In order to replace the handle or adjust it, you need a Phillips screwdriver. The easiest adjustment option is setting up sliding structures. In this case, you only need to adjust the distance of the roller carriages.
- Pliers or pliers.
- Aerosol WD-40 or machine oil for fitting lubrication.
The main nodes in need of adjustment
You can adjust the sash vertically and horizontally. In the first case, adjustment of the lower loop is required, and in the second, the upper part of the mechanism. To adjust the pressure of the sash, the mount in the middle part of the sash is adjusted from the side of the handles. Also, the shutter clip is adjusted at the bottom of the window. To adjust the lower angle of the sash horizontally, the lower hinges are adjusted.
Without the help of a wizard, you can not only adjust the window construction, but also eliminate some simple malfunctions. Consider how to do this.
Replacing a window handle or installing a handle with a lock
Handles with fuses may be required in the nursery, as well as in other rooms of the house where the small child lives. This important detail will not allow the baby to open the window on his own. To install a new handle, you must remove the old one by unscrewing the plug and unscrewing the bolts. Then you need to gently swing the handle and pull it out. The new handle is put in place of the old in the same position and bolted.
If the handle staggers
To fix the malfunction, simply tighten the part fasteners harder. To do this, it is necessary to release the bolts hidden under the plug - a rectangular trim located under the handle. The plug must be pry off the upper and lower parts and rotated 90 degrees. Two bolts are located under it, which you need to tighten with a screwdriver. In order to move the plug, do not use sharp objects, as this can damage the profile.
The handle is stuck or not fully closed
First of all, you need to understand what caused this problem. The handle mechanism may need to be lubricated or cleaned. The second reason may be the maximum fixed clip on the sash. In this case, it must be loosened.
It is not difficult to clean the handle mechanism. To do this, remove it, clean it from dirt with a brush or vacuum cleaner, lubricate and put it back. For lubrication, it is recommended to use WD-40 with a nozzle that easily penetrates into the recesses of the structure. In general, oil or aerosol is recommended to be used whenever adjustment of window structures made of PVC is carried out.
If a problem with the handle arises due to excessive downforce, it must be loosened. For this, the eccentrics are adjusted at the end of the sash from the side of the handle, and bolts on the hinges are also adjusted.
If the handle is jammed
Even if the pen stops moving, you should not be scared. This situation is not a reason for replacing hardware. As a rule, the handle sticks due to the operation of the lock, which does not allow changing the position of the window (open up) when the sash is open. To solve the problem, it is enough to manually remove the lock lever.
The lock lever is located at the end of the sash on the handle side. What does he look like? The lever may take the form of a plate that is screwed to the end and retracted at an angle to the seal if the sash is open. The second option is a clip that goes into the seal.
Sash pressure adjustment
With the onset of cold weather, the windows can be adjusted so that the seal passes as little cold air as possible. The snug fit of the sash to the frame provides reliable protection from the cold. It is necessary to adjust the degree of clamping of the sash to the frame in those cases when the sealant has become thinner, worn out, and blowing from the window has begun.
Professional craftsmen recommend adjusting the clamping device twice a year. On the eve of winter frosts, the clamp must be increased, and with the onset of heat - reduced. If a high degree of pressure is maintained throughout the year, this can ruin the fittings due to the constant voltage in the structure, as well as shorten the life of the insulation, which, under constant strong pressure, becomes thinner and loses its heat and sound-proof properties.
To adjust the clamp, it is necessary to find oval cylinders at the end of the leaf, called trunnions. On the frame there are holes corresponding to them, into which the pins enter when turning the handle. This design provides the sash against the frame. The clamping force is adjusted by moving the holes on the frame or scrolling the pins.
To increase the clamping force, it is necessary to turn the eccentric with the protruding part to the inside of the window. To reduce the force, you need to do the reverse operation, that is, turn the pin with the protruding part out.
How to set up the cam? There are three ways to configure. Accessories from different manufacturers may vary slightly, so the method of adjustment will depend on its features.
- The trunnion has a slot for a flat or slotted screwdriver.
- The eccentric must be slightly removed from the surface on which it is located and rotated. This can be done using pliers or just with your hands.
- The eccentric can be rotated with a pair of pliers with little effort.
To check the possibility of adjustment, you can try to change the position of the pin in three ways in turn. At the same time, it is advisable to start from the first, in order to avoid serious damage.
It may happen that despite all the efforts, the end cylinders cannot be adjusted. In this case, it is necessary to change the position of the counterpart or holes on the frame.
Using the hexagon, you can unscrew the bolts and move the hook to the side of the street to increase the clamp or to the side of the room to loosen the sash.
When the manipulations on the adjustment on the end side closer to the handle are completed, it is possible to adjust the fit on the opposite side, where the loops are located. Consider the option for a window that can open in airing mode. Here are the basic steps for setting the sash fit for such a window.
Having removed the cap of the casing, you will see two bolts for a hexagonal screwdriver, as well as one bolt located at an angle of 90 degrees to the plane of the window. It is with him that he will need to carry out manipulations. By turning the bolt clockwise, you can strengthen the clamp; when the screwdriver moves counterclockwise, the clamping force will weaken. Adjustment is made using a hexagon. It is more convenient to set up when the window is closed.
To adjust the upper part of the sash, you need to open the window and find a device called “scissors” that allows you to open the sash from above (in ventilation mode). Next, you need to find a clip or a lock lever on the end of the window sash, press it and hold it in this position. Then turn the handle to the vertical position that it occupies when ventilating. After this, the sash will come out of the upper groove and will hang on the lower mount and on the “scissors”. This will allow you to get to the bolt that regulates the clamp. It is located on the underside of the device that holds the sash. By turning the bolt you can adjust the degree of fit.
So, adjusting the fit of the sash is quite simple and does not require excessive effort. You will be able to independently adjust the level of heat saving in the room depending on the air temperature in the street.
Sash touches the window frame
This problem occurs quite often. It is also not critical, you can cope with it yourself without replacing accessories and without repair costs.
The shutter can touch the edge of the frame in cases where the fittings are loose or deformed. This can happen if the window is always open. In this case, the hardware is damaged under the weight of the sash.
The second cause of the malfunction is a too sharp and quick opening or closing of the window, which leads to deformation of the parts, as well as to weakening their fastening.
In order to set up without problems, it is advisable to seek the help of a hardware manufacturer whose logo is visible on the parts. By visiting the manufacturer’s website and reading the adjustment instructions, you can quickly and accurately perform the setup.
There are general tips for changing the position of the sash if closing is broken:
- The sash touches the frame with the upper end: the sash must be turned to the lower canopy or lower the entire structure down.
- The sash touches the frame with the lower end closer to the handle: the sash is raised and rotated towards the upper hinge.
- The leaf touches the frame in the middle of the end part (where the handle is): the structure is shifted towards the hinges. Sometimes it is necessary to slightly turn the sash to the lower or upper canopy.
To make the adjustment, you will need to turn the hex bolts located on the “scissors” system, on top of the window, as well as on the lower canopy.
Consider how to adjust the sash with the most common violations of its position.
- If the sash has lowered, or if you want to slightly turn it from below, it is necessary to adjust the bolt located on the lower canopy. Having removed the platband, you will see a hole on top of the canopy. By inserting a hexagon into it and turning it, you will adjust the height of the sash. Turning it clockwise raises the sash, and counter-lowers it.
- If you want to move the sash left or right, then you need a bolt located in the lower part of the hinge mechanism parallel to the plane of the window. There are two accesses to the bolt: from the side of the window and from the slope, adjustment can be carried out from either side. Turning the bolt clockwise, you move the sash to the right, counterclockwise - to the left. Be sure to check how the window closes after each turn of the bolt. Manipulations are carried out until the desired result is achieved.
- To adjust the sash in the upper part, it is necessary to adjust the “scissors” mechanism. To move the sash in the upper part, you need to find the head under the hexagon, which is located on the side of the mechanism. It will be available if the window is fully open.
If you want to adjust a heavy metal-plastic sash or door, then you need to configure special closers, the task of which is to lift the sash when opening and closing.
One of the advantages of modern plastic window systems is that their fittings are subject to comprehensive self-tuning. In key places, tuning bolts are located, the adjustment of which is carried out with the help of hex keys with a diameter of 4 mm. Spending a minimum of effort, you can independently adjust the window as you like, adjust the heat transfer in the room, protect the window from cold air in the winter, and also fix minor imperfections that arise during operation.
