Recently I met a survey "how much space you have on drive C", and this prompted me to show you how to clean drive C from unnecessary files without deleting anything extra.
As the survey showed, in most people only 100 GB is allocated for drive C, of which a couple of GB are free. This is not surprising, the OS and the necessary software occupy 50 GB, plus garbage, temporary files and as a result, the memory is all occupied. Let's get started and in order to remove all the trash from the computer.
I think everyone knows what this folder is and why it was filled. If anyone is in the “Downloads” tank, this is the place where all your files that you downloaded / saved on the Internet are. To find this folder on your computer, open “Computer / My Computer” and “Downloads” will be in the left menu.
If for some reason this folder is not in the left menu, then go to: Drive C, Users, “Your PC’s Username”, Downloads.
Now, as you understand, I suggest deleting everything from this folder, except what you need. The rest of the files that you still need, it is better to move to another drive.
To move files to another section, hold down the Ctrl key and left-click on the files / folders you need. After you have selected everything, press “Ctrl” + “X” (Cut), then open the folder where you want to move and press “Ctrl” + “V”.
Transfer the download folder to disk D, E, F
If you have little space on drive C and you cannot / want to expand it, it would be logical to transfer the downloads to another drive, where the volume allows it. Just transferring will not work, so you have to use the following method:
- Go to drive C, Users, "Your PC’s username", "Downloads."
- Right-click on the “downloads” folder and select “Properties” in the menu.
- In the top menu, go to "Location".
- Here is the path of your folder, which you can change manually or click "Find Folder".
- After you have selected a folder on another drive, click "Apply" and you're done!
Delete temporary files
Temporary files are stored in the Temp folder and they are all unnecessary junk that clogs your computer. These files remain after installing programs, updates, etc. You can delete them absolutely everything, even without looking at what is there.
First, let's open the Temp folder. Open "Drive C", then "Windows" then open the folder "Temp". Select all the files with the key combination “Ctrl” + “A” and delete them.
Windows may notify you that you can delete a specific file only with Administrator rights. Click yes / continue.
If you have Windows XP, then go to the next item, if Windows 7-10, then do the following:
In the search, on the start panel, write “% temp%” and open the folder.
An alternative way to open: in the address bar, write "C: Users UserName AppData Local Temp". Where "UserName" you need to enter the username of your PC.
In this folder, delete everything that can be deleted. Personally, for 1 month I collected almost 2 GB of temporary files.
Clean with Ccleaner
I want to suggest you use a program called "ccleaner". This is a very powerful utility that does half of what is mentioned above, and also cleans the cache, browser history and much more. If you do not need to clean something, for example, the browser history, this can be disabled in the settings.
In any case, I advise everyone to use it, so let's see where to download it and how to use it:
Go to the official website "https://download.ccleaner.com/ccsetup541.exe" and download the program.
Install and run the program. During installation, remove the daws near unnecessary programs (Avast, etc.).
Go to the “Options” tab then “Setting” and select Russian instead of English.
Go to the cleaning tab and uncheck everywhere that you don’t want to clean (browser history, etc.). After that, click "clean up."
You will be pleasantly surprised, after cleaning the program will show how many MB it freed your computer.
Delete unnecessary programs
Over time, a large amount of software is collected, which is essentially not used. You installed something yourself, something installed itself (viruses from mail.ru, avast and others ...). Earlier, I already wrote «How to remove Avast», so let's look at his example:
Uninstall the program in Windows 7:
- Open the Start menu and click on the Control Panel. Now find in the list of "Programs and Features."
- In the menu in front of you are all the programs that are installed on the computer. Choose among them "Avast", click on it 1 time and in the top menu press "delete".
- You will open the installer of the program, in which at the bottom there is an inconspicuous delete button. Click on it. After that, the antivirus program will try to convince you, but you continue what you started and do not believe it.
- Done! Next time, be careful when installing software and games.
Uninstall Avast in Windows 10:
- Open “Start”, then “Settings”, after “System”.
- Find “Avast” in the list, click on it, and then click “delete”.
In this way, uninstall all programs that you are not using. Do not delete they’re not sure of anything, especially the software from Adobe and Microsoft, and the rest is not particularly important.
Increase disk space C
It is recommended that there is always free space on drive C of at least 30 GB. This is necessary for the correct operation of the system and in case of updates, backups, etc.
Increasing the space on drive C at the expense of another drive is quite simple and so as not to take a million screenshots, I suggest watching a small video:
We clean the basket
After you delete a file or folder, it gets into the trash in case you suddenly change your mind. These files accumulate there until you manually empty the recycle bin or restore them back.
After such a global cleaning of drive C, be sure to empty the trash. In general, I recommend doing this regularly (once a week will be enough), especially since it does not take much time.
So that Empty trash, find the icon on the desktop with the bin and the corresponding inscription, then right-click on it and select "Empty Trash" from the menu. Done! Case for 10 sec. and there’s more disk space.
What you should not do
Here I will try to list all the possible errors of inexperienced users, as well as mention tips from other sites and explain why you should not do this (if you forgot something, add in the comments):
- In no case do not delete any files and folders on the C drive if they are there without your actions. Those. You can only delete folders that you created. Otherwise, it may cause the OS to crash.
- Do not do anything with the hibernation file. Do not disconnect it, do not delete it. Only experienced users can properly disable it, so that in the future not to encounter a system error. Won megabytes are not worth it.
- Do not disable or resize the swap file - this will affect the performance of your system.
- Standard "Disk Cleanup". The properties of the computer have a standard utility that supposedly cleans drive C from debris. Yes, it is, but for example, for 1 year of using a computer, 60 MB files will be collected there (this is very small). It’s just not easy. not relevant and do not waste your time.
- Uninstall programs completely (described above in detail) using special uninstall.exe installation files. There is no need to delete programs along with the folder in the “program files” section; otherwise, many other files of this program will remain on the disk.
How to remove Windows XP 7 8 10 from your computer completely
Good afternoon friends. I think every user noticed that after he installed a new operating system, this OS starts working like a debugged clock. Everything loads quickly and correctly. It is a pleasure to work with such a system.
But time passes, and the system begins to slow down. It takes a long time to boot when it is turned on, and the system shuts down for a very long time. The same thing happens with programs installed on this system. They load for a long time and do not work correctly.
Of course, the best way is to clean the system. I have written about cleaning the system more than once in my articles. I even wrote two free books on this subject: “How to speed up a computer?” And “How to clean Windows properly?”.
But suppose the user has already decided to remove this system and install a new one. Although, we remove the system, not only because of failures. Quite often this happens when a new OS is released. When the user simply wanted to install a new system. In both of these cases, the old system will have to be deleted.
They also often delete the system when another parallel is installed, and the second becomes simply unnecessary to us. So how do you do it right? Today we will look at three ways to remove Windows 7 from your computer completely, although this applies not only to Windows 7, but also to other operating systems.
How to remove Windows 7 from a computer - replace it with a new system
We will do this by using the installation disk, which we boot from the BIOS. To do this, at boot time, select the BIOS settings. So, the boot disk is in your drive. As soon as you press the computer, immediately press F2. And you need to do this before the Microsoft logo is downloaded.
You will enter the BIOS settings, from where you can choose the order of loading disks on your PC. We enter the Boot section.
Next, select the priority disk as the CDROM boot.
To do this, press CDROM and set the priority.
Then, press F10 to save the settings. Now we can delete our system by installing another operating system on it, the one you decided to install. At the same time, it is possible to remove the system from the BIOS using other third-party software, for example, Acronis Disk Director, but we still consider the removal by installing a new one on the old system.
This is the most common and convenient method. I will not talk about all the nuances of installing the system, especially on the topic of installing the system I already have an article on how to reinstall the operating system. I will only explain that if you already have a system installed and you decide to install another system on it, then in the process of installing the system, before choosing the partition where you will install the new system, the old one needs to be formatted.
To do this, being in the disk selection window for installing the system, click on the line at the bottom of the "Disk Settings" window.
Next, we need to select a drive to format. In our case, it is systemic, and click "Format."
Then, we will get a warning about deleting all information from this section. Which is what we need.
Our disk was formatted. Then, you just have to continue installing the new operating system.
To speed up the installed Windows, I recommend: - Computer Accelerator.
How to remove the second Windows from the computer The first method
Many users have two systems. We will consider the case when both of them are located on the Hard disk, but in different partitions (often people put the second system on a virtual disk in the same partition).
So, for this, right-click on the “Computer” tab and select properties. A window will open with our disk partitions. Select "Advanced Options" in the left column.
We have a window "System Properties". In the "Advanced" menu, select "Options" above the "Download and Restore" line.
Then the most important thing begins. In the window that opens, you need to select the system that you want to leave with which the download will take place. If you make a mistake, the system simply will not boot.
Click OK. Also, this method is suitable if you just want to remove the second Windows from the download menu.
We need this action to eliminate surprises. For example, if the boot system defaults to the system that you want to remove, and you do not change the system, the computer will simply start working.
Now, close all open windows, click on the “Computer” tab with the left mouse button. In the window that opens, select the disk on which the parallel system stands, which we want to remove. In my case, this is drive D. To do this, right-click on the drive and select "Format".
In the window that opens, select "Start." We get a warning about the consequences of formatting. Click OK and the disk with our second system is fully formatted.
How to remove parallel Windows from a computer Second method
This method is much simpler. To do this, just enter "System Configuration" in the command line or msconfig and open the program. Select the “Download” menu. In the window that opens, we will see information about our operating systems. Since I currently have one system, the program also shows one system.
Then, select the system that you want to remove and delete it by clicking on the "Delete" button.
After the procedures, it is advisable to clean the registry. The task is completed, the second system is deleted!
You now know how to remove Windows 7 from your computer completely and you should have no problems about this. Also, I'm interested in your opinion on this issue in the comments! Good luck!
Friends, after removing Windows from the computer, I suggest you install it not on a regular HDD, but on a solid-state drive SSD, as I did. Disks on a page with a volume of 120 to 960 GB, i.e., actually 1TB. You can purchase the link .... on Aliexpress. Judging by the description, the drive is suitable for both Computers and (laptops).
From the screenshot you see the volume of the disks. If you just need to install the system, just purchase a 120 GB drive. If as a full-fledged hard drive, then, at your discretion, from 480 to 960 GB. Why do I recommend installing Windows on a solid state drive? Your system will boot in seconds! If you purchase a 1TB disk, all of your programs will fly!
In general, you can choose the SSD disk that you like on the page ... For those who do not know what an SSD disk is, I advise you to read my article “What is an SSD disk”. Good luck!
Sincerely, Andrey Zimin 09/14/2015
I'll bookmark the article.
Glad to help you, Maria!
Your article is good, but there is nothing about how to deal with drivers for Windows 7. Or they are not needed. And if they are needed, then how to enter them in the archive or open the archive. The question turned out to be clumsy (as well as my user level is low). But still I hope for a specialist answer. I’m waiting. And thank you.
Good afternoon, Yuri. I do not quite understand, do you mean installing Windows 7 or uninstalling? If the installation, then this system differs from the same Windows XP in that it comes with almost a complete package of drivers, with the exception of, of course, the drivers from your video card that go to the CD drive with the video card.
Useful article, thanks. Everything is very detailed and laid out on shelves. I think now anyone can cope with the removal of Windows7 on their own.
If the office is not installed, then no table can be inserted into the Word Pad.

The inevitability of the prevention process
Sooner or later, the hard drive must be subjected to some "treatment". Since the information stored on the hard drive often has a chaotic filling structure. Not always a practical solution to the question: "How to clean the computer completely by completely formatting the disk space?" - the best option. As a rule, the information arrays stored in the bowels of user machines often represent some value to their owners. However, to restore order in the "digital warehouse", there is no need to expose the hard drive to a complete erase process. It will be enough to run any software tool whose functionality allows you to defragment the disk.
We will not go deep into technical terminology. We shall only touch upon the operational moment of one of the most responsible for the storage of information components of a modern computer - HDD. Because the understanding of the problem: “How to clean the computer completely?” Will free your brain from some doubts about the advisability of systematically defragmenting drive sections.
The fact is that in the process of using the hard drive, the user constantly deletes or transfers part of the data to another area of disk space. The resulting "gaps" are filled with new files, the size of which can significantly exceed the freed space. Ultimately, “weighty” data is subjected to a crushing process. As a result, the HDD mechanics have to “strain” somewhat, which is why PC performance is significantly reduced - the effect of “braking” is evident. For this reason, you should periodically defragment the disk. However, in order to achieve the most effective result in solving such problems (of a preventive type), something else must be done first ...
How to clean the computer completely: choose an action plan
First of all, delete all unnecessary files. You can use standard Windows tools for this. However, specialized software, for example, Your Uninstaller, during the uninstallation process removes residual digital junk from the system registry. Thus, there is a significant saving in disk space.
Effective Tough Measures
Suppose you need to thoroughly clean the hard drive. В таком случае уровень стирания должен соответствовать значениям «высокий» и «надежный». Конфиденциальная информация, уничтоженная методом «в несколько проходов», практически не может быть восстановлена обычными программными средствами.If you need a simple solution to the question: “How to completely clean the hard drive?” - use the second method.
The first way: irrevocable
You will need exclusively specialized software. Use the free CCleaner utility. After downloading from the Web and installing software, run this functional software.
- Activate the “Service” tab (shortcut in the form of a chest on the left side of the program workspace).
- Then go to the “Erase discs” item.
- In the appropriate check boxes, make an acceptable choice.
- In confirmation of your actions - click "Erase".
The second option: how to clean the computer completely without removing Windows
All the same CCleaner will help you clean up all sections of your HDD:
- Activate the “Cleaning” tab (broom icon).
- Mark the necessary items.
- Click the “Analysis” button.
- Then click on "Cleaning".
- Then go to the "Registry" tab.
- Check all the items and click on “Search for problems”.
- Then click "Fix."
The Third Method of Disposing Digital Debris: Standard Windows Tools
By using some of the various services built into the system, you will not only get a practical answer to the question “How to completely clean the hard drive?”, But also learn how to use the hidden potential of the OS.
- Go to the start menu.
- Click on the “Computer” tab.
- Hover over the desired section and right-click to bring up the context menu.
- Select "Properties" from the drop-down list.
- In the service window, which appears immediately, you need to activate the General tab.
- By clicking on the "Disk Cleanup" button, you need to mark the types of files that you want to delete.
- Confirm your changes with the OK button.
- Then in the message box, click "Delete files."
Free RAM Resources
Not everyone knows how to clean up the computer’s RAM. However, for you this "secret" will be revealed. Use the method most suitable for you and optimize your PC.
- Open Windows Notepad.
- Write the command: FreeMem = Space (64000000).
- Save the resulting record under the name "ram_cleaner.vbs" in the format "txt".
If necessary, run a text file, which will clear the RAM of your PC.
Software solutions for system optimization and prevention
There is a mass of specialized software, the use of which will allow you to permanently get rid of the headache about the resulting "garbage" in the system. It is worth noting that some programs have incredibly wide functionality. For example, TuneUp Utilites 2014 independently monitors system performance and constantly optimizes the operation of the OS. For a beginner, such a program is just a treasure. By the way, this software implements a special service, the operation of which is the answer to the question often asked by users: “how to clean the computer’s RAM”. When there is no desire and time to understand thoroughly all the intricacies and nuances of PC maintenance, then this is the best option.
The penultimate cleaning option: formatting the hard drive
When the user decides to resort to the process of reinstalling the Windows operating system, it is worth using the presented method of cleaning the HDD. Before the OS distribution kit is installed on your hard drive, you can always format a particular area of the hard drive. This is perhaps one of the most cardinal ways to clean the drive from the information on it. However, if you had difficulty resolving the issue of how to format the “C” drive, now you know what needs to be done.
The Final Digital Recycling Method: Command Line
To overwrite data on disk space, you can resort to this method of cleaning:
- Press the “Win” and “R” keys simultaneously.
- In the service line, type: cmd, and then click OK.
- In the command window, write: format (section identifier), then be sure to put a colon.
Ultimately, you should get the following: format c :, where “c” is the letter of the HDD partition, in this case, the system partition.
Before you finish
It would probably be unfair to keep silent about memory cards. Since the problem of “digital garbage accumulation” today for flash data carriers is no less relevant than for PC hard drives. It's no secret that miniature data storage devices (flash drives) can have a pretty decent capacity rating. Therefore, the knowledge of how to format a memory card is also necessary for the user.
- When you insert the above storage device into a special PC connector (card reader), the system assigns a specific alphabetic character to the embedded equipment.
- After pointing the marker to the memory card, right-click once. From the context menu, select "Format."
- The most acceptable for miniature information storage devices is the FAT32 file system. Therefore, formatting the memory card is necessary according to the recommended parameters.
- Your flash drive will last a long time if you do not “spontaneously” remove the device from the PC, without first agreeing with the OS the moment when the system should turn off the power supplied to the flash drive.
You must now understand how to clean the computer completely? You have Windows 8 installed or the seventh OS - it doesn’t matter. All the above examples are relevant and valid for literally all versions of the Microsoft operating system family. You just have to put the acquired knowledge into practice in order to facilitate the work of your PC. Good luck and stable performance!
